We should share our veggies. What are all of you guys currently growing?
Currently, I have some thai peppers that I think I'm going to dry, pickle and maybe powder. I also heard that you can make a good pesticide with peppers. That might help my squash garden. |

Sweet. We should trade. Why don't you throw in a bushel of sarcasm, because I have some pumpkins coming. |

We'll probably have a buttload of tomatos in a few weeks. 'brandywine' an heirloom variety and a modern hybrid.
Might have some extra yellow squash, depends how things go
The fillet beans are awesome, I wish I had planted more. |

I have to transplant all of our tomatos. Someone decided to plant them in containers and now it looks like they've out grown them all. |

are you talking fresh, preserved, or plants? Fresh is hard because you have to line up schedules and timing for visiting and all that. I've tried canning, but I didn't do it right the first time- so I can't guarantee success, but I'm willing to do it again if there is something to can. I'll share stuff if we got it, but I really don't know what we'll have. Perhaps trading growing tips n shit. We're experimenting sort of with tomatoes- our practice year with them and beans. We're looking for stuff that grows in shitty clay soil, ha!
I wished we could all get together and do a weekend where we shared fresh foods with each other, but we'd only really be able to plan around one person's harvesting. Within a season, NJ is about a week or 2 earlier than CT which is a week or 2 earlier than VT.
If you want to swap plants, that's cool We have horse radish and raspberries I think the rest are annuals. Oh mint too. |

I just wanted to start a thread about gardening. I know something like this won't work because we're so far apart. On the other hand, I will be trying to can any pumpkins that grow and most likely pickle the zukes. |

No herbs, unless you count the basil I bought from shoprite that I planted and kept alive.
I think I'll be starting some broccoli and lettuce because I heard it's not too late, but far far away from the Zukes. And yay, the melons are coming! |

I've been trying to grow thyme, with little success, from seed. I finally had one take, but over the winter, it became infested with buggies, along with the other stuff in the same pot, so I tossed everything outside. I hoped the thyme would hold out the winter, but it didn't. Anyone else ever grow Thyme?
Brian, you should try basil from seed, it's wicked easy..and I am the worst plant grower in the world!! Well if you're into that kind of thing of course;) Parsley is easy too and it lasts a couple of years. Cilantro is easy too, but goes into flower pretty quickly compared to parsley and basil, so it makes me sad.
Anyone have experience with growing dill? |

buy a thyme plant. it grows like a weed if it's established. it lasts consistently through even our winters. what kind of buggies did you get, lisa?
i've tried to grow basil often since we've moved to vermont, but i always get aphids. and i think basil prefers longer, warmer summers, anyway. |
